SINGAPORE – ALBA W&H today celebrated a major milestone: 500,000 kilometres of zero tailpipe emissions achieved by its fleet of Scania battery-electric trucks used for waste collection. The celebration was held this morning at ALBA’s Jurong office, where Jakob Lambsdorff, CEO of ALBA W&H Smart City Pte Ltd, received a certificate of achievement from Joyce Antar, Managing Director of Scania Southeast Asia.
Since their deployment in 2023, ALBA W&H Smart City’s battery-electric trucks have operated efficiently with zero tailpipe emissions and reduced noise levels—contributing to better air quality and a quieter, more liveable environment in the Woodlands-Yishun sectors. The company’s strong operational performance has been supported by Scania’s ongoing commitment throughout the electrification journey. This includes strategic investments in workshop tools, equipment, and the professional training of personnel to ensure full readiness to maintain and support the battery-electric trucks—from charging solutions to maintenance services tailored for ALBA W&H’s operations.
“ALBA W&H Smart City’s fleet of Scania battery-electric trucks has achieved a 66% reduction in well-to-wheel emissions compared to equivalent diesel trucks,” said Jakob. “This directly supports the National Environment Agency’s (NEA) mission to create a clean environment, moving towards a liveable and sustainable Singapore. The adoption of battery-electric trucks aligns with the Energy Reset pillar of the Singapore Green Plan, which aims for all vehicles to run on cleaner energy by 2040.”
Joyce Antar added: “Under Scope 3 of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), Scania aims to achieve a 45% reduction in CO2 emissions from vehicles produced by 2032, compared to 2022 levels, measured in CO2e/km well-to-wheel. ALBA W&H Smart City’s battery-electric trucks play a key role in this initiative and in our sustainable partnership.”
Through this partnership, ALBA W&H Smart City also benefits from a suite of Scania Digital Services, including the Fleet Management System Control Package. This provides real-time insights through the My Scania portal and Fleet App, with features such as vehicle positioning, performance monitoring, service planning, defect reporting, and driver evaluation. These tools support ALBA W&H in optimising fleet efficiency while achieving both sustainability and profitability.
ALBA W&H Smart City is a joint venture between ALBA Group Asia and Wah & Hua in Singapore. The company is the NEA-appointed public waste collector for the Jurong and Woodlands-Yishun sectors and the sole operator under NEA’s Producer Responsibility Scheme for nationwide electronic waste collection and management.
